*Bio-acetate is made by combining two main components: cellulose acetate (a polymer that is produced from cotton or wood pulp) and a bio-based plasticiser made from renewable sources (cereals, beet or sugar cane). The bio-based plasticiser replaces conventional plasticisers sourced from fossil fuels and increases the total amount of bio-based carbon made from renewable sources (calculated according to the international standard ASTM D6866) to 67% (compared to an average proportion of 40% bio-based carbon in the case of conventional acetate). The percentage of bio-based carbon indicates how much of the material mix is produced from renewable materials and how much is produced from sources based on petrochemicals or fossil fuels.
